Behind the Scenes of a Fashion Show Extravaganza
For three years, I've been privileged to be part of The TransLatin@ Coalition’s annual GARRAS fashion show fundraiser. This year, their quinceañera celebration took center stage, and I took the lead in assembling a dedicated video and photography team to document the event. The experience was a whirlwind of creativity, meticulous planning, and rapid decision-making. A challenging experience, but incredibly rewarding.
Building the Dream Team
The first step to a successful show is a talented team. I assembled a skilled crew of three camera operators and four photographers, each with a unique eye for capturing the essence of the event. From the glamorous red carpet to the backstage buzz, they made sure every angle was covered.
A Last-Minute Curveball
Just when I thought I had everything under control with the social media, photo, and video teams, a curveball was thrown my way. A few days before the show, I was unexpectedly assigned the role of stage manager. Talk about a last-minute pivot! This meant I had to quickly adapt to a new role, coordinating the visuals on the big screen, timing each designer's appearance with their corresponding music and visuals, and scheduling video presentations. It was a bit nerve-wracking, but it was also a fun challenge.
Rolling with the Punches
The fashion world is notoriously unpredictable, and this year's show was no exception. We had a designer drop out last minute, forcing us to reorganize the entire show sequence. And just when we thought we had it figured out, another designer arrived late, throwing our carefully planned schedule into chaos. But with quick thinking and adaptability, we managed to keep the show running smoothly. It was a true test of my ability to adapt and problem-solve under pressure.
Overcoming Post-Production Challenges
Once the show wrapped up, the post-production phase began. I took on the task of editing a video using footage from three cameras. However, a technical mishap occurred: the clean audio feed from the audio engineer failed to record on the external audio recorder. Luckily, one of our camera operators had the foresight to record audio internally, saving the day.
A Flawless Finish
Despite the challenges, the show was a huge success. The models looked stunning, the music was on point, and the visuals were captivating. The final video is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team.
I'm incredibly proud of what we accomplished. It was a challenging experience, but ultimately, it was incredibly rewarding.
A huge shoutout to Melanie Chapman, Sam Klegerman, Roberto Hannibal, Niko Storment, Romas Usakovas, Kane Andrade, Jaime Ballesteros for their incredible work.
